Interviews with Regular People (IWRP)
Recently, Barry had come up with brainstorm to Interview Regular People. Most of us never get interviewed, but do have interesting things to say regarding topics such as news, politics, music, interests, etc…
That being said, and not having an initial subject to interview, I offered to write up 10 questions for him to which he responded and has posted here. Reciporically, I’ve responded to the same 10, so here goes. The next 10, to be authored by Barry, should be posted soon.
IWRP: Evan
1) If you went to Northeastern for film and Sociology, why did you get into web design and programming?
I did go to NU, which is how I know the prestigious author of TellHimFred.com, however, I started out with Computer Science, switched to Marketing, then to Sociology. Got the BS in Sociology, minor in Marketing, now I work at a law firm as Marketing Administrator. Funny how the two Sociologists spend their time in Marketing at different law firms.
2) What are a few of your favorite activities / things to do in
Boston?
First thing that comes to mind is a couple of beers at Marshall House w/ friends, or, well, just the regular old regulars around 7pm. Next is live music, a broad topic but, favorites have to be some local bands like “The Johnny Come Latelies” or “Ruth.” Darts and pitchers of Molson are right up there…, but my favorite activity in
Boston is to go out w/ my bride and eat dinner. Doesn’t matter where. Lastly, we musn’t forget Guster. Any Guster show is my favorite thing ever to do in
Boston or anywhere in the country.
3) What is the best neighborhood and / or apartment that you’ve had in
Boston?
Definitely Jamaica Plain. I had one apt. there for 3 years…, many roommates, many stories, and some of the best food in the city of
Boston. Not to mention that Nate and I coached not 1 but 2 little league teams. Both of which went to the championship game. The second of which went to the championship the day before graduation. Did I mention it was the first place that my bride and I lived? No? Well it is for the record books.
4) You’re a fan of the new “Heros” television show. Pick a superpower, any superpower (doesn’t have to be from the show).
Superpower, huh? Well I want to have telekinesis. I don’t want anything too obvious, want something that’ll help out when Hailey wants something I can’t reach, and something to screw with people when I feel like it.
5) If you could go to grad school for anything at all, full boat, what would it be and why?
Education. No doubt. If I could get a degree teaching HS history or math, and be a baseball coach, summers off to be w/ my kids, I’d be set for life.
6) I’ve heard that your HS football skills were pretty good. Why didn’t you play football in college?
Our football team was in “rebuilding” when I played, Ian and
Cam reaped the benefits of that. I didn’t play sports in college b/c my brain has always been stronger than my skinny frame.
7) I’ve heard that your HS football skills were pretty good. Why didn’t you play football in college?
I think it’s stupid. Snoop is cool shit, don’t get me wrong.
8) List the 3 top concerts you’ve been to and why.
Top 3 concerts is a tough one. The night that Ian and I saw Pearl Jam at the
Tweeter
Center is #1. I’ve not missed a PJ show in the area since my first in ’97, but this was unreal. It was 7-11-03. Night 3 of Pearl Jam in 1 week. No repeated songs, 112 different PJ tunes in 3 nights. We sat 10th row, next to a woman w/ a setlist in Vedder’s handwriting. To this day, we have no idea who it was (maybe Mike McCreaddy’s mom?) PJ started w/ an acoustic set at 6pm, then a blistering 3 ½ hours of straight rockin out after that. They were subsequently banned from the venue for playing long after curfew. Go buy the CD…, it’s available as the longest Pearl Jam show ever played.
#2 would be the 311 shows that my brothers and I go to every summer, sometimes twice a year. It wouldn’t be just one concert that I could single out, just the experience of going to a 311 show with both brothers, a bunch of other people in most cases, and just makinng a whole day of it. If you haven’t, go see a 311 show.
#3 11-12-05. Guster in
Providence, RI. I’ve seen Guster over 30 times in the past 10 years (see a trend yet?) , never missed a local show (MA, ME, NH, RI, a few in CT, VT, NY). This was a night…., Andrea and I got lost a couple times trying to find restaurants and the venue. The show was amazing. Go look it up on archive.org.
9) Who is the most degenerate, festering, sack of monkey shit in politics today?
That would have to be our articulate, fearless, and war-mongering leader, President Bush. Born on third, thinks he got a triple. Every President has had opponents and people / political groups who dislike them, but when the President of the US openly lies or presents misinformation in order to push his agenda through, costing the lives of servicemen and women, that’s f***ed up.
10) Would you skydive? Or, would you ever jump out of a perfectly good airplane, pay for it, and hope to Christ that you’re backpack full of parachute opens, just for a thrill?
Nope. I don’t like to fly. Never have. The flight up would be bad enough in a little paper airplane that idiots tend to dive out of. If you even got me into one of those things, there’s no f***ing way you’d get me to jump out of it. I like thrills, but seeing terra-firma rushing up at me at terminal velocity is not my idea of a worthwhile thrill.
